Brand identity and design, built into the project.

Most website projects arrive with a brand problem attached. A logo from years ago that nobody can find the original file for. Fonts that changed at some point. A colour that prints differently to how it looks on screen. If you're commissioning a new site and the brand needs attention too, doing both together produces a better result than handing a brief to two separate people. Brand and design work is bundled with a website project, not offered as a standalone service.

Built forUK businesses commissioning a site

Brand work runs in the first two weeks of a project, ahead of the main design phase. It typically adds one week of net time to the overall project.

When you'd hire me for this

  • You're commissioning a website build and you don't have a current, consistent brand identity to work with
  • Your existing logo and branding are dated or don't reflect where the business is now
  • You need a design system (typography, colour, component patterns) that works across your website and any future materials
  • You want the person designing the site to also make the brand decisions, so the output is coherent rather than assembled from separate briefs
  • You're starting something new and want logo and website design handled together by the same person from day one

What you get

  • Brand strategy session: who you're building this for, how you want to be perceived, what the brand needs to do
  • Visual identity: wordmark or logo, typography system, colour palette. Designed for digital-first use, not just print.
  • A design system applied to the full site build, so the brand is consistent across every page, not just the homepage
  • Copy direction as part of the creative brief. The words and the visuals working from the same foundation.
  • Figma source files, exported assets in the formats you need, and a brand guidelines document are all yours from launch

How I work

  1. Brand strategy

Brand work runs in the first two weeks of a project, ahead of the main design phase. The output informs the site design, not the other way around. One focused session: who you're building for, how you want to be positioned, what the brand needs to do.

  2. Visual identity

Logo, typography, colour palette. Logo work is AI-assisted and James-edited. I use AI tooling to generate directions quickly, then select and refine from there. You see the working directions before anything is finalised.

  3. Design system

From there, the design system feeds directly into the site build. Typography, colour, component patterns, and spacing are defined at the brand level and applied consistently across every page.

  4. Site design and build

The brand decisions inform every design choice in the site. The result is a coherent output — not a site that was designed separately to a brand document that sits in a folder.

What it costs

Brand and design work is scoped as part of the wider project, not as a separate line item. The creative overhead (discovery, brand strategy, visual identity work) is included in the design tier of the project quote.

Brand and design work is included in the project-level creative overhead, with a typical £1,000 to £3,000 uplift on the equivalent build-only scope depending on brand complexity and whether the business is starting from scratch or refreshing an existing identity.

Every project scoped individually. Bands are honest guides, not menu prices.

FAQ

Let's build your brand together

If you're commissioning a new website and the brand needs attention too, tell me about the project. 15-minute call, no preparation needed. I'll work out whether brand and website design makes sense as a combined scope on the discovery call.
